The Scottish Government has approved the Edinburgh Marina development at Granton's Western Harbour on appeal of the expiration of the 15-year masterplan planning permission expired.
The £500m development includes 1,850 new homes, conference hotel and spa, retirement complex and medical hub.
The city council had previously granted planning permission in 2013 but this had since expired. Edinburgh Marina Holdings filed an appeal for the development to be re-approved, highlighting that denial would send the project "back to the drawing board" and add further delays.
According to reports, approving the development a second time, the Scottish government reporter, described it as "a significant inward investment, providing economic benefits and regeneration in an area that has historically suffered".
