SGN have started a £350,000 project to upgrade the gas network in the Edinburgh Road area of Penicuik.
The works will involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply. The project will last approximately 15 weeks and will be carried out over five phases to minimise inconvenience.
The work in Edinburgh Road will begin at its junctions with Mauricewood Road and continue southwards to Carnethy Avenue. As SGN progresses along the road, temporary traffic lights will be in place around its work area, and the following junctions will be closed in phases:
• Eastfield Farm Road
• East Queensway
• Eastfield Derive
• Cuiken Terrace
• Cuiken Avenue
After that work in Edinburgh Road is complete, SGN will be working in nearby residential streets. All local residents will be notified by letter if SGN is going to be working in their street.
The new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, Penicuik residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
