Shetland Islands Council has welcomed the response to date on an ongoing consultation into the potential future use of the Sullom Voe Harbour area, while announcing a new series of public events.

The team leading the Master Plan Project is now preparing for another three drop-in sessions – in Yell, Ollaberry and Brae – to share the data received so far, and to allow more opportunities for comment and feedback.

The team from NAFC Marine Centre who are undertaking the work on behalf of Shetland Islands Council has now collated a comprehensive picture of existing use in the area, and information on the requirements of potential emerging industries, including aquaculture and renewables.

So far the results gathered show that, while participants feel the special natural aspects of the area shouldn’t be squandered, most (70%) support some level of sustainable development.

There will be three more drop-in sessions to give communities the chance to make further comment, at:

• Tues 4th June - Yell Leisure Centre, Mid Yell – 2.30 – 7 p.m.

• Wed 5th June – Ollaberry Hall – 2.30 – 7 p.m.

• Thu 6th June – North Mainland Leisure Centre, Brae – 2.30 – 6.45 p.m.
