Judging

The judging panel will be made up from three people independent of the Council:

• Louise Matheson - Former Architect who worked in private practice and local authority in Dumfries, Glasgow, Stornoway and London and is now owner and manager of a speciality and fine food shop in Dumfries

• Mark Douglas - Team leader at Heritage and Design, Scottish Borders Council

• Diarmaid Lawlor - Director of Place at Architecture and Design Scotland (ADS), who trained as a landscape architect and has worked extensively in practices across the UK.

The judges will first consider the entries in late May 2019 and draw up their shortlist of buildings which they will then visit. The main judging will take place over two days, therefore arrangements for visits will need to be made at short notice.

While judges will need access to view the exterior of the building, entry inside the building may not be essential. Every effort will be made to contact the owners before any visit but please be aware of the requirement for access when you make your submission and advise of any potential access restrictions.

Judges who have a connection with any project or entrant will not be allowed to vote on that entry or lobby the other judges on its behalf.

It is intended to award a Winner and a Commendation from each of the four categories, subject to the judges' decision in respect of the quality of submissions. If the judges consider that there are no suitable entries in any of the four categories, the Council may decide not to make an award.

Equally if judges consider more than 1 entry in a category deserves a Commendation, the Council may decide to make more than 1 Commendation in one or more category. The decision of the judging panel is final.
