Stirling Area Boosted With Upgrades To Cycling/Walking Network

Construction News Image
The Braehead and Broombridge areas of Stirling are set to be boosted with an improved cycling and walking network.

Work is underway on the £170,000 project, which will see both areas upgraded with widened paths, new crossing facilities and dropped kerbs. New signage will also be installed to make the route into the city centre clearer for cyclists and pedestrians.

Convener of the Environment and Housing Committee, Cllr Jim Thomson said: "I am pleased to see this project up and running which will deliver high-quality networks for cyclists and pedestrians in the local area and enhance neighbourhoods.

"These improvements have been developed in consultation with communities and will make a huge difference to how people travel across the city as we look to achieve a sustainable and active Stirling.

"The wide benefits of cycling and walking are well documented, and this initiative in Braehead and Broomridge will provide a range of active travel options for people which are affordable, healthy and environmentally friendly."

Stirling Council successfully secured funding from the Scottish Government, through Sustrans Scotland's Community Links programme.

The project also forms part of the council's Active Travel Action Plan (ATAP), which supports the delivery of the Local Transport Strategy (LTS) by encouraging and enabling more trips to be made by walking, cycling and public transport.

Work commenced on the project on 25 February and will run for seven weeks.
