Macallan Distillery Named In Wood Awards Shortlist

The new Macallan Distillery & Visitor Experience building in Speyside has been named on the Wood Awards 2018 shortlist.

The Wood Awards celebrate outstanding design, craftsmanship and installation using wood.

The awards are split into eight different categories including Commercial & Leisure, Education & Public Sector, Interiors, Private, Small Project, Bespoke, Production, and Student Designer.

The £140 million Macallan building was among three other nominees in the Commercial & Leisure category. The other nominees were Fallahogey Studio in Northern Ireland, City of London Freemen's School Swimming Pool, and Storey's Field Centre & Eddington Nursery in Cambridge.

The undulating timber roof structure comprises 380,000 individual components, with each junction and beam having a specific name, as well as being tested in over 160 different load conditions.

The winners of the Wood Awards 2018 will be revealed at an Awards ceremony at Carpenters' Hall on 20 November.
