Resurfacing work has been announced on the M74 Northbound at Junction 8, beginning on 20 July.
The work will be carried out on a 700m section of the road over three consecutive evenings.
Scotland TranServ will complete the works on behalf of Transport Scotland.
Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ's Principal Roads Design Engineer said: "The M74 is a major trunk route into the busy Central Belt of Scotland and that's why we are doing everything possible to minimise the impact of this important programme of work. It will be necessary to implement full overnight closures of the M74 Northbound at this point, with short diversion routes in place.
"We have been working with local authorities and key stakeholders in the area in the scheduling of this £140k programme of work. Every effort is being made to keep disruption to an absolute minimum while works are carried out."
A number of traffic management systems will be implemented during the project.
Andy Fraser, Scotland TranServ's Operating Company Representative added: "Across South West Scotland, we're working on behalf of Transport Scotland to prioritise such road maintenance issues and deliver our road surface improvement projects as quickly and safely as possible. We have scheduled this programme of work to be delivered with maximum efficiency and minimal disruption to the thousands of commuters and freight drivers using this extremely important economic artery every day."
