West Dunbartonshire Council has approved plans to invest £15 million in new education facilities in Renton and Alexandria.

Plans have been approved to appoint a contractor for a new build a Renton Primary, while proposals have been given the go ahead to refurbish St Mary's Primary School in Alexandria.

In addition, the Educational Services Committee approved undertaking works to the existing St Martin's Primary in Renton to bring the building up to a grade B condition and ensure that it continues to comply with Health and Safety requirements.

Work is planned to begin at both sites before the end of this year.

Cllr Karen Conaghan said: "As a Council we want to provide the best possible learning experiences for our young people to ensure they achieve and attain all that they are capable of, and the decision by the committee to progress with the new build at Renton and refurbishment at St Mary's fully support this aim."

Cllr Caroline McAllister added: "These two projects have been long-awaited by pupils, staff, parents and carers at Renton and St Mary's, and I know this investment is going to significantly enhance the learning experiences of hundreds of children at both schools."
