Work To Start On £237,000 A76 Road Resurfacing Project

Construction News Image
Work is to begin on a £237,000 road resurfacing project on the A76 road in Dumfries and Galloway.

Scotland TranServ will start repairing around 1km of the route at Crockroy near Kirkconnell from Friday, 08 June.

Work will take place from 7pm on 06 June to 6am on Monday, 11 June. An additional two overnight closures will be in place from 7pm to 6am on 11 – 12 June.

Due to the depth of resurfacing and narrow width of the A76 in sections, Scotland TranServ said it will be necessary to implement a road closure in order to protect the health and safety of workers and the travelling public. There are also limited diversion options for larger vehicles.

Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ's Principal Road Design Engineer said: "This is the first project in a summer programme of investment for the A76. The trunk road, one of the most exposed in South West Scotland, has been significantly affected by repeated freeze-thaw cycles during a prolonged winter. Scotland TranServ is accelerating a number of projects to address these carriageway defects.

"We've been working with local authorities and key stakeholders to schedule these improvement works to be delivered with as little disruption on the communities as possible. The weekend closure will be necessary to carry out this lengthy resurfacing scheme as efficiently as possible."
