Work is to begin on a £172,000 road resurfacing project in East Kilbride.

Scotland TranServ will start repairing nearly 1km of the A726 between the Righead and Murray Roundabouts from Monday, 21 May.

The four-night scheme is a follow up to last year's Queensway westbound resurfacing and preparatory works will be required to be undertaken in advance of these works during overnight lane closures.

Signed local diversions will be in place throughout the works, with special arrangements made for emergency service vehicles.

Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ's Principal Design Engineer, said: "We've worked closely with local authorities and key stakeholders to carefully plan these works to reduce the impact on commuters and shoppers in and around East Kilbride. Planning around other major utility projects in the area we have scheduled closures for overnight only.

"Traffic management will only be installed at night once traffic levels are sufficiently low and lifted first thing before the morning rush hour begins. The Queensway is a busy local artery and we want to keep the town flowing while maximising the efficiency of the works."
