Contractors McGowan Ltd has completed work to build a flood alleviation channel above the village of Kingussie.
The scheme was undertaken as part of a joint venture between the Council and Pitmain Estate.
The final phase of the project was completed at the end of February. An offtake weir on the Allt Mor has been built to direct a proportion of the flow from the main river via a diversion channel into Loch Gynack. This is then released at a controlled rate back into the River Gynack.
Both the council and Pitmain Estate have jointly funded the project, which will contribute towards efforts to reduce flood risk in Kingussie as set out in the Local Flood Risk Management Plan for the Findhorn, Nairn and Speyside Local Plan District.
Cllr Bill Lobban said: "I'm delighted that the project has gone so well and the work is now complete as the scheme will certainly help to reduce the frequency and severity of flooding from the River Gynack in the centre of Kingussie."
