Morrison Continues Work On £32m West Calder High School

Morrison Construction is continuing work on a new £32 million school in West Lothian.

The new West Calder High near Parkhead Primary has entered into the final months of construction and is set to open in August.

The 1,100-capacity school has been designed with the pupil experience at the core, as well as providing facilities accessible to the local community. Features will include a swimming pool, floodlit 3G sports pitch, and sports facilities for school and community use.

With work on the new school now shaping up, current Primary 7 pupils from feeder schools including Addiewell, East Calder, Kirknewton, Mid Calder Parkhead and Woodmuir primaries were all invited to see the construction progress.

The young people were allowed into one of the completed science rooms, designed with modern facilities to support learning, and were able to safely view work taking place on the school's impressive amphitheatre area, which sits at the heart of the building.

Acting Head Teacher at East Calder Primary School, Steven Eagleson, said: "It was really valuable bringing all the children from the feeder schools up to the new West Calder High School today.

"It's great having such a new resource that's been designed in such a modern way. It will have a big impact on how faculties can work together."

Richard Park, Hub South East's Operations Director, said: "It's fantastic to see future pupils get a glimpse of where they will start their high school journey in August.

"As a Hub project, we're keen to ensure a range of community benefits and offering site visits is just one of these. We're delighted that our contractor, Morrison Construction, could facilitate this experience for the children.

"It's great to hear first-hand the positive feedback the new school is receiving and we're sure this will be echoed by their classmates and teachers when they begin to use their new school at the start of the 2018/19 term."
