Work To Start On £426,000 A701 Road Resurfacing Scheme

Construction News Image
Work is to begin on a £426,000 resurfacing project on the A701 road in Dumfries and Galloway.

A total of 2kms of carriageway will be repaired at Tathhill and Courancehill from Friday, 20 April to Friday, 27 April.

A 1.2km stretch at Tathhill will be repaired, along with 800 metres of the trunk road at Courancehill. Local diversions will be in place.

The project will be carried out during the following period;

• 8pm Friday 20 to 6am Monday 23 April – Full weekend closure of A701

• Monday 23 to Friday 27 April – Overnight road closures of A701 from 8pm each night to 6am the following morning.

Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ’s Principal Road Design Engineer, said: "To complete these projects with as little disruption as possible, it is necessary to implement a weekend closure and a series of subsequent overnight closures.

"Because of the depth of treatment at Tathhill it will be necessary to allow a longer period of time for the new surface to harden. This requires weekend working. We are able to reduce that time for the resurfacing of the A701 at Courancehill because the required treatment depth is not as great.

"We have worked closely with Police Scotland, the local authority and key stakeholders to carefully schedule this programme. It is our aim to engage with communities to reduce the impact of our works on commuters and freight traffic alike."
