Aberdeenshire Council has agreed in principle to build a new £79 million community campus in Peterhead.
Councillors have approved the multi-million pound facility, including costs, in its capital plan for 2023 – 2028.
Councillor Gillian Owen said: "We have a longstanding commitment to regenerating and improving Peterhead. This is why we embarked on a building programme designed to make a real difference to the community.
"Once complete, there will be a fantastic community campus which will see a state-of-the-art secondary school and primary schools, as well as provision for leisure and culture in the form of a sports village, theatre and space for the community to meet and host events.
"People living in Peterhead and Aberdeenshire should be in no doubt that the council is committed to investing in our communities to give our children the best place to learn, families a great place to live, and create thriving towns for businesses to invest in."
