Work is underway on the Scapa Flow Visitor Centre and Museum refurbishment project at Lyness.
The project will see the historic buildings restored, as well as enhancing interpretation and displays with the creation of a new building to house an exhibition space, café, toilet facilities and information areas.
In addition, new showcases, lighting and environmental controls will be installed to allow the museum to display objects which have never been on show before.
Funding for the development has been secured from Orkney Islands Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund, Historic Environment Scotland, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and the Orkney LEADER fund.
While the museum is closed to the public during the 2018 season, temporary displays have been set up at Orkney Museum in Kirkwall.
The main museum is scheduled to reopen in late spring 2019.
