Plans have been approved to create a new supported housing complex for adults with learning disabilities in Forfar, Angus.

The facility will replace the Gables Care Home, which is considered outdated and no longer suitable for the needs of the 13 adults who live there.

Work is scheduled to begin later this year. Features include 11 new one-bedroom flats, one two-bedroom house, a communal lounge and staff accommodation. A further six one/two-bedroom affordable homes will also be developed in the existing grounds.

Caledonia Housing Association has been appointed as the preferred registered social landlord. The new home will be built in the grounds of the existing care home off Arbroath Road. Residents will continue to live at the existing Gables and then transfer to the new supported housing development once it is complete. The old premises will then be demolished.
