Construction News Image
A new £9.7 million primary school has been constructed in the Scottish Borders.

Broomlands Primary in Kelso was built by contractors McLaughlin and Harvey and includes 12 new classrooms, an early years centre, a games hall/dining room and upgraded playground.

Pupils have now moved into the new school for the first time today, 09 January. Work to demolish the previous school will be completed by the summer.

The project is part of a series of school improvements the council is currently delivering, with new primaries at Langlee and Duns and a new Kelso High opening within the last six months.

Further works are taking place to create a support centre for pupils with complex needs at Galashiels Academy and a new nursery at St Boswells Primary School, while a planning application for the new Jedburgh Intergenerational Community Campus was approved on Monday, 08 January.

Councillor Carol Hamilton said: "I am delighted that the new Broomlands Primary is now open.

"We have to thank pupils, staff, parents and the local community for their patience during the construction of the new school, as well as the project team and the contractor McLaughlin and Harvey for delivering the facility on time. It is a striking building providing modern facilities which will aid the pupils' learning.

"The new Broomlands Primary is one of a number of new school facilities being progressed in the Scottish Borders, all of which will benefit our young people."
