Work has started on a £74,000 gas network upgrade project in South Lanarkshire.
Scottish Gas Networks (SGN) is underway with the final phase of work to replace old metal gas mains with new plastic pipe in the Muir Street area of Hamilton.
The two-phase project will be carried out over seven weeks;
• Phase 1 – lasting around three weeks; Cadzow Street will be closed near its junction with Muir Street. Access for residents will be maintained at all times, and a signed diversion route will be in place for motorists.
• Phase 1 – lasting around four weeks; From 29 January, work will take place on Muir Street between its junction with Lower Auchingramont Road and Lidl supermarket. To allow engineers to work safely, the carriageway heading up the hill towards Bothwell Road will have one lane closed.
South Lanarkshire Council said SGN will work extended hours and at weekends to complete the work as quickly as possible.
