Network Rail has started work on a platform improvement project at Broughty Ferry railway station in Dundee.

The scheme will see a 90-metre section of platform one raised and rebuilt ahead of new trains being introduced on the East Coast main line. In addition, the stepping distance from trains calling at the station will be improved for passengers.

Overall, the scheme is one of 10 being delivered across the Highland and East Coast main lines in Scotland.

Simon Humble, Network Rail's scheme project manager, said: "This investment is vital to the introduction of a new state-of-the-art train fleet on the East Coast main line and also improves the station for passengers.

"We are committed to delivering this work considerately and our programme is designed to complete these enhancements as quickly as possible while also minimising inconvenience for rail users and local businesses."
