More Than 1,900 New Homes To Be Built In North Lanarkshire

Construction News Image
More than 1,900 homes are to be delivered in North Lanarkshire over the next five years.

The council has approved its Strategic Housing Investment plan (SHIP) for 2018/19 - 2022/23 following a recent meeting of the Enterprise and Housing Resources Committee.

The SHIP aims to double the rate of homes built over the previous five years and also contains details of the council's own contribution to meeting the need for additional, affordable accommodation through its new build programme.

With further plans to build 2,150 new homes for rent by 2026-27, over 430 have so far been delivered to date and work is continuing on a further 450.

The build programme is supported by nearly £120 million of funding from the Scottish Government.

Cllr Allan Graham said: "We want all of our tenants and residents to enjoy good quality housing in a pleasant and safe environment, and our SHIP details how we'll work with our partners to achieve this.

"As well as helping to meet the shortfall in affordable housing to support the range of needs in our communities, the planned new affordable housing will also help tackle fuel poverty and regenerate town centres.

"By producing a long term plan we hope to realise our vision to assist people to achieve their potential, and be safe, healthy and included by providing access to high quality housing and support."
