Work is continuing on a LED light replacement project along the M74 motorway.

A total of 34 high mast sodium lights at Junction 6 will be replaced with new LED alternatives by Scotland TranServ.

The scheme will deliver energy efficiency savings of around 60%, and with the implementation of a central control unit, potential power savings of nearly 74% are possible.

In addition, to reduce the project's carbon footprint Scotland TranServ's contractor CU Phosco will be reusing the reinforced concrete plinth for the new lights, with old metal posts recycled where possible.

Iain Flanagan, Scotland TranServ's Project Manager said: "Our continued programme to replace the sodium high mast lights with new energy efficient alternatives is continuing along the sections of the M74 that we manage. This programme of work will see the replacement of dozens of lamps, while keeping disruption to a minimum.

"We have worked with Police Scotland and the local authority to schedule these important works for overnight, reducing the impact on local commuters and businesses. Once complete our part of the M74 will not only be perceptively brighter at night, but deliver a significant energy saving on behalf of our client, Transport Scotland."
