Work on a £2 million primary school extension project in South Ayrshire is now complete.

The scheme at Troon Primary School was delivered by Prestwick-based Ashleigh Building (Scotland) on behalf of the local authority.

Features included the demolition of the former stand-alone dining hall; construction of a double height assembly / gym hall / dining hall; a single-storey building housing changing facilities, and kitchen; and improved accessibility, including a new lift.

In addition, internal alterations were carried out to connect the extension to the existing building, alongside the relocation and enlargement of the infant toilet accommodation.

Overall, the scheme formed part of a £94m programme of works being delivered across South Ayrshire, with the aim of enhancing standards through a widespread improvement programme.

Cllr William Grant said: "We're committed to giving our young people the best possible start in life, with a first-class education in quality facilities.

"The flexible new extension allows the school to dramatically improve the quality of the sports and physical activity on offer, provides a central meeting point, and also allows the space to be opened up for community use.

"This investment will help the school to adapt to changing needs, extend what it does, and most importantly enhance the standard of education for generations to come."
