Plans On Display For A90 Laurencekirk Junction Upgrade

Construction News Image
Motorists and residents are being invited to view plans for upgrading the A90/A937 junction in Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire.

Two variations of a flyover replacing the existing junction to the south of Laurencekirk, and the realignment of the A937 with a new flyover north of the town are the three options being considered for the scheme.

A public exhibition displaying the options is being held at noon in St Laurence Hall later today, 30 October.

Transport Minister Humza Yousaf said all comments received will be considered before a preferred option is identified next year.

"Since we appointed design consultants in September 2016, we have been working hard to identify and undertake an initial assessment of options for the planned improvements at Laurencekirk," he said.

"We are now able to let the public see and comment on the options that are under consideration for this much-needed upgrade.

"I would encourage as many people as possible to attend the exhibition on 30 October or view the material online and give us their views by 27 November 2017.

"While there is still a lot of essential development work to be carried out, we continue to push forward the design preparation stages to deliver this scheme as soon as possible, which will bring improved road safety and economic benefits to road users and the local community in Laurencekirk and the wider north east."

Chair of the City Region Deal Joint Committee and leader of Aberdeenshire Council, Cllr Jim Gifford, added: "As this region undergoes an exciting period of transformation and investment, improvements to the Laurencekirk junction are a priority and one of a number of infrastructure upgrades. Complementing the Aberdeen City Region Deal, the additional £254million funding package we received from the Scottish Government has enabled this project to progress, and we are delighted to reach this stage and demonstrate to the public the progress made so far.

"We would encourage as many people as possible to share their views on the three options which have been tabled, and look forward to a preferred scheme being identified so that we can get closer to work on the ground kicking off."
