Four contractors have been shortlisted to deliver the A737 Den Realignment project.
The successful bidders are; I & H Brown Ltd, Interserve Construction Ltd, R J McLeod (Contractors) Ltd and Roadbridge Civil Engineering & Building Contractors.
The companies will now proceed to the next stage of the competition, with the £5 million contract expected to be awarded in Spring 2018.
The project involves building a new 1km section of carriageway between the existing A737 between Beith and Dalry, as well as new junctions. Other features include removing a double bend on the existing stretch of road and delivering safety benefits.
Transport Minister Humza Yousaf said: "Work is already underway to construct a bypass around Dalry and today's announcement marks further progress in improving the A737 for communities in North Ayrshire as well as those road users travelling further distances."
