Construction News Image
Work has started on a £690,000 bridge refurbishment project in the Scottish Borders.

The 10-week scheme will see Clackmae Bridge on the C76 road near Earlston closed to allow for the replacement of the existing deck and strengthening works to be carried out safely. The project is scheduled for completion on Friday, 22 December.

The scheme is part of a programme of bridge repairs in 2017/18 which also include improvements to Lowood Bridge between Galashiels and Melrose, Bowanhill Bridge near Teviothead and Bowden Church Bridge.

Cllr Gordon Edgar said: "The C76 road is an important route for the local community, which is why the Council is carrying out these works to the Clackmae Bridge.

"It is part of a significant bridge repairs programme by SBC in 2017/18 which will ensure Clackmae, alongside a number of other important bridges in the Borders, can continue to be used for years to come."
