Work Starts On New Port Glasgow Housing Development

Work has started on a new housing development in Port Glasgow, Inverclyde.

The first phase of 28 new homes are being built by Cruden Buildings and Renewals in the Slaemuir area. Overall, a mix of 96 one-, two- and three-bedroomed homes will be developed at the site.

Plans include the demolition of all the 'stub block flats' to make way for modern, two-storey homes. The first phase is scheduled for completion by autumn 2018.

Gary Wilson, Executive Director of Property Services at River Clyde Homes, said: "By building on vacant land within the Slaemuir estate first we will have brand new homes available for existing block residents to move into before we demolish the first block.

"We will then continue the cycle, building on the cleared site to provide new homes for residents until all of the low-rise blocks are replaced.

"In addition to new homes, there will be a number of community benefit initiatives as part of our commitment to aiding the skills and development of an Inverclyde workforce."

Allan Callaghan, Managing Director of Cruden Buildings and Renewals, added: "We're delighted to be working with River Clyde Homes to build a total of 96 new homes within Slaemuir. This first phase will see 28 new homes ready by autumn 2018 which will deliver a real boost to local residents and allow the continuing regeneration of the area.

"These high quality, modern, one, two and three bedroom homes will provide residents with energy efficient eco-friendly housing that will be warm and cheap to run."
