Yoker Housing Association (HA) has purchased part of the former Blawarthill Hospital site in Glasgow.
The £100,000 deal will see the HA take ownership of part of the site at Dyke Road/Holehouse Road (1.62 acres), as well as a two-storey C-listed building dating from 1897.
Plans for the site include developing a residential scheme featuring 10 houses and nine flats for 'affordable' social rent.
Elsewhere on the wider hospital site, the council is planning to build a new 70-bed social work care home.
The council acquired the former Blawarthill Hospital in February 2017.
A council spokesperson said: "The disposal of this site is good news for the city, bringing both a contribution to public finances and creating more affordable homes in Glasgow. We can all look forward to the development of this site, which will bring a piece of vacant land back into use."
