Work Continues On £2.6m Greenock Nursery

Construction News Image
Work is continuing on a new £2.6 million nursery in Greenock, Inverclyde.

Following a poll between parents, children, staff and the local community, the new facility has been named the Glenpark Early Learning Centre.

All three playrooms in the new Glenpark Early Learning Centre – two accommodating 40 children and one accommodating 20 – will have views out over the River Clyde.

The 100-pupil facility is being built on part of the old Greenock Academy site. It is the latest scheme in the council's £270m schools estate programme.

A new £9.2m St Ninian's Primary is currently being built and work is underway refurbishing Moorfoot Primary school in Gourock and Lady Alice Primary in Greenock. The refurbishment of the Bluebird Family Centre in Greenock is almost completed.

Cllr Jim Clocherty said: "When it is finished the new nursery will be at the heart of the community so it is essential we find out what people of all ages were looking for when it came to a name.

"There were some interesting suggestions but clearly when it came to making a final decision it was quite right that we agreed with the majority."
