A newly refurbished primary school and Early Childhood Centre (ECC) has officially opened in East Ayrshire.

The council invested almost £3.6million was invested in the project at Hurlford Primary School.

The whole fabric of the building has been refurbished and the external play areas redesigned.

Internally, the building now has been comprehensively upgraded with modern dining facilities, fully refurbished toilets, new play rooms and improved accessibility.

Councillor Whitham said: "I'm grateful to parents and staff for their patience as work was carried out over the last year and I know just how excited the children, parents, staff and local residents have been as these works have neared completion.

"I'm incredibly pleased to formally hand over the keys to Hurlford Primary School and Early Childhood Centre and am equally delighted with the very positive feedback we have had on these works.

"Education is a Council priority and we’re continuing our drive to give our youngest residents unparalleled opportunities to succeed, from the first steps on their learning journey, right through to their final year at school and beyond."
