Housing Minister Kevin Stewart has opened a new housing development in Dundee.
The six-flat scheme off Glamis Road was built by CCG on behalf of housing and care provider, Blackwood.
The homes will be the first to showcase the 'Blackwood House' design blueprint. Features include greater circulation space for easy wheelchair and walking frame access, fewer heavy doors, and a central kitchen with rise and fall units. In addition, the bathroom hub has movable fittings, as well as flexible storage space and a greater level of automation.
Smart technology (CleverCogs) has been installed in each home, featuring touch screen devices allowing customers to open blinds, switch on TVs, order shopping, see who is at their door and connect with family, friends, and carers.
Fanchea Kelly, Chief Executive at Blackwood, said: "The Scottish Government has recently brought health and social care services together in every area of Scotland and through the Blackwood House, we have developed a bespoke, modern example of what independent living will look like. The homes will not only give us a blueprint for future builds, but will also create a great community for our new tenants. Building good neighbourhoods is very important to us and we want our customers to feel safe and happy in their homes.
"We're in discussion in a number of other areas and we're planning a programme to build more Blackwood homes over the next few years, so it's very exciting to have now launched this first development."
Calum Murray, Director of CCG, added: "We have been delighted to work with a care provider that shares our passion for innovation and quality. 'Blackwood House' offers an insight into the future of assisted living, showcasing some of the most innovative technology available. It is constructed using our off-site manufactured closed timber panel system which brings many advantages including a rapid speed of build as well as being highly energy efficient ensuring significantly lower energy running costs for the new residents.
"The 'Blackwood House' sits alongside the recently completed 'Lochlee Wynd', a development also led by CCG consisting of 17 private homes where the final home has just been sold. CCG is proud to have brought a vibrant new mixed residential development to Dundee and we look forward to working in the city in the future."
