Renfrewshire-based CGC Construction has been recognised in its efforts to become more environmentally friendly.

The company recently invested in 15 more vans for its 50 vehicle fleet, which are more fuel efficient and generate less pollution than older models.

Features include tracking vehicles so that engine idling, a notorious cause of air pollution, is reduced as much as possible. In addition, all CGC vehicles have a trip computer so drivers are encouraged to drive as fuel efficiently as possible.

As a result, the company has been endorsed with four stars from the Eco Stars Fleet Recognition Scheme, which is supported by Renfrewshire Council.

Angie McGuire, Transport Manager at CGC, said: "We all have a responsibility to make the environment as clean as possible and reducing pollution is a key way of doing this.

"We are delighted to have been awarded this four star rating and we will endeavour to do even more to ensure our fleet of vehicles is operated as efficiently as possible."

Managing Director Leo Reilly added: "As a large company we recognise the importance of operating as environmentally-friendly as possible. We are always looking at ways we can reduce our carbon footprint. Our participation in the Eco Stars Fleet Recognition system shows we take this matter very seriously indeed."
