Moray Council has rejected plans to build a new £40,000 crash barrier on the B9014 road in Speyside.
The Dufftown and District Community Association had petitioned the council to erect the barrier on a bend in the route near Parkmore due to concerns a serious accident could occur at the site.
Trees at the location have been removed, exposing any vehicle which left the road to a downward slope towards the Keith-Dufftown railway line.
However, councillors rejected the calls as a report revealed action had already been taken to improve the quality of advance warning signs on the approach to the bend.
In addition, while the cost of the barrier was likely to cost £40,000, other potential costs such as earthworks and land acquisition could push this total higher.
