Public realm upgrade works are set to start in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire.

The Windmillhill Street scheme involves installing new street lighting with landscaping including new planters, shrubs and trees, paving, benches and tables.

The project is expected to take two months and is being carried out as part of a town centre regeneration project.

Shirley Linton, Head of Enterprise and Place, said: "This project on Windmillhill Street was identified during a public consultation, or charrette, that we held with local residents, businesses and community groups to look at ways of improving Motherwell town centre.

"It's a busy location with people using the health centre, visiting the Civic Centre and local shops as well as being a main route through Motherwell. The improvements will create a more attractive and useful space for people to use."

Plans for another improvement project will be on display in Motherwell Library and online from today, 23 March to 13 April.
