Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA) is continuing work on a £11.3 million water infrastructure upgrade scheme in Inverclyde.

The contractor is installing around seven miles of new water mains between Greenock Water Treatment Works (WTW) and thousands of customers in Port Glasgow, Greenock, Kilmacolm and Lochwinnoch.

The new mains will allow Scottish Water to change the customers’ source of supply to Greenock Water Treatment Works (WTW) from the Kaim WTW, which currently serves the Kilmacolm and Lochwinnoch areas, and the Dougliehill WTW, which serves Port Glasgow and small parts of Greenock.

The investment enables the utility to decommission those two WTWs and provide water from Greenock WTW, which is currently operating below capacity.

As part of the project, a lane will be closed on a short stretch of Port Glasgow Road in Kilmacolm, with two-way temporary traffic lights installed between Gibson Lane and Woodrow Avenue from Monday, 13 March.
