Scottish Water is continuing work on a £1.8 million water upgrade project in the Highlands.

The scheme will see a new 2.6-mile-long water main installed from the junction of the A837 and the B869 roads, just north of Lochinver, to the Achmelvich Water Treatment Works (WTW).

Caledonia Water Alliance, Scottish Water's alliance partners, are progressing to the next phase of work from Achmelvich to Am Feadan. However, engineering difficulties has resulted in a delay in completing the first phase and some further work on the B869 will be required.

As a result, a 'passive' road closure on this stretch of road will remain in place for the duration of the project from 20 February until 31 March. Diversions will be in place.

Ruaridh MacGregor, Scottish Water's Regional Communities Manager, said: "We are very aware of the disruption our work has caused over the past 13 weeks and we are grateful to residents in the area who have been very patient with us.

"We are doing everything we can to complete the remaining work as quickly as possible and have agreed with The Highland Council that the road will be reopened by March 31."
