New figures have revealed over 150,000 new UK homes were registered by the National House Building Council (NHBC) last year.
A total of 151,687 new homes were registered, a 2% decline compared to 2015 (155,504). However, the figures are a 70% increase compared to levels from the 2008 crash.
Overall, seven out of 12 regions saw an increase in registrations, most notably Yorkshire & Humberside (+27%), South East (+14%) and North West (+12%). In Scotland, 1,185 more homes were registered in 2016 than 2015.
In addition, the number of new homes completed during 2016 (141,175) was also marginally up 1% on 2015’s total (140,407).
NHBC Business Development Director Mark said the housebuilding sector has "remained resilient" despite the UK's decision to leave the European Union.
"We have also seen some strong regional growth outside of London," he said.
"Both industry and consumer confidence remains high and early signs indicate that the new year has begun positively.”
