Kier has reached a milestone on its £25 million Ayr Academy project in South Ayrshire.

The development at Ayr's Craigie Estate is now wind and watertight, with work ready to begin on the internal fit-out.

The scheme is being delivered in partnership with hub South West and will have capacity for up to 1,000 pupils once finished in August this year.

Other features will include sports and community facilities including sports pitches, a multi-use hall, two gyms and a dance studio.

A group of 16 pupils recently visited the project site to find out more about their new school.

Ayr Academy Headteacher Lyndsay McRoberts said: "There are already visible signs of significant progress at the new site and it was great that our young people got the chance to hear more about the construction process, which is now entering its final stages."

Cllr Margaret Toner added: "The new school is a major investment in the standard of education that will be available for generations to come.

"The project forms part of our wider investment in our schools portfolio, with a number of major projects due to be completed across South Ayrshire in the coming year."
