Dundee Play Parks To Receive £400,000 Boost

Construction News Image
Over £400,000 of play park improvements are set to be delivered across Dundee.

Both Dawson and Victoria parks are in line for new play equipment, while environmental improvements will be carried out Camperdown and Dudhope parks as well as Hawkhill and Watson Street.

Dundee firm P&G Blacksmiths has submitted the best tender for associated fencing at both Dawson and Victoria park play areas. The equipment will be designed and installed by Sutcliffe Play Ltd (Scotland) at Dawson, with Northamptonshire-based Wicksteed doing the same work at Victoria.

Plans include new redesigned and improved landscaping at Dudhope Park, with upgraded north stairs and a redesign of the formal area with additional seating.

New seating and litter bins will be accompanied by redesigned and improved landscaping at Hawkhill along with the creation of an additional wildflower panel and new trees.

Lower maintenance planting and a redesign is planned for Watson Street, with the last phase of bollards installation to be completed at Camperdown Park. Further upgrades will be carried out to the landscaping.

Vari McDonald deputy convener of the council's neighbourhood services committee, said: "These schemes have been proposed to improve and enhance the local environment for residents and members of the public after discussions with local groups.

"These works deliver on a commitment made last year to introduce a programme of capital expenditure focused on improvement projects and reflect the on going popularity of the play areas at Dawson and Victoria parks.

"Both are well used but in need of upgrading so these plans reflect our desire to bring in safe, modern inclusive equipment that will increase access and open up the play experience."
