North Ayrshire Council is to host a series of public consultations over plans to develop a new £12.1 million flood protection scheme at Millport.

A blueprint for the Millport Coastal Flood Protection Scheme will go on display at the end of this month in the DA Hall, The Garrison.

The dates of each consultation are; Tuesday, 29 November and Thursday, 01 December.

Each session will include special workshops to allow people to view different proposals and give their feedback on the designs.

Proposed ideas include extending Millport Pier using rock armour, removing timber sections of existing pier, creating offshore breakwaters and raising the level of existing sea walls.

Cllr Jim Montgomerie said: "I’m sure the people of Millport will be keen to see the draft plans that have been drawn up for the flood protection scheme.

"It has been a big undertaking by the Council and a number of options have been drawn up to offer long-term protection against flooding.

"The consultation exercises will also include design workshop events with all the important information about the proposed scheme clearly displayed - covering everything from why the scheme is needed to the technical and environmental considerations."
