Council To Unveil Initial Designs For Inverurie Community Campus

Construction News Image
Aberdeenshire Council is to unveil initial designs for a new community campus in Inverurie.

The new school and sports facilities have been designed by architects Halliday Fraser Munro.

Local residents are being invited to attend a public drop-in session on the current design plans between 10am – 9pm on Wednesday, 09 November, where representatives of Halliday Fraser Munro will be available to answer questions and note feedback.

Plans are also in place to seek permission in December from members of the Education, Learning and Leisure Committee to start a formal consultation on proposals to relocate St Andrews School to the new campus.

The council has committed £25 million towards the cost of the new campus, with a further £24.8 million secured from the Scottish Government.

Head of Property, Allan Whyte, said: "The building designs that will be on display at the drop-in in November are still working plans but as they stand show a shared campus with facilities for all the different groups that will use it.

"A state-of-the-art secondary school would be built to replace the current Inverurie Academy, which will continue to be used until the new one is built. The former school would then be demolished to allow completion of the car parking, landscaping and external sports facilities.

"At the moment the campus will accommodate a range of wet and dry indoor sports facilities, including a games hall, dance studio, fitness suite, swimming pool and trainer pool.

"If St Andrews School is relocated to the campus, it will have its own distinct setting with a separate school entrance and classrooms, sensory rooms and therapy suites.

"Several outdoor play areas would be created, some which would only be accessible to St Andrews pupils and others which would be shared by both them and Inverurie Academy pupils.

"We're continuing to adapt the plans based on the feedback we receive from staff, parents, sports users and the wider community so I encourage anyone interested in what the new facilities could look like to come along in November."
