West Lothian Council is set to save around £300,000 a year after installing new LED lamppost lights across the region.

Over 11,500 lights in the county have been converted to LED, which has reduced annual energy consumption by over 2,800,000 kWh, enough to supply over 700 homes with electricity each year.

Cllr Tom Conn said the works programme has provided "huge reductions in energy use and carbon emissions".

"The council are committed to reducing our carbon emissions and this programme has made a significant impact towards lowering our output," he said.

"Given the current financial challenges that the council faces, it is vitally important that we work as efficiently as possible and this programme highlights the excellent working that the council is undertaking. The LED programme not only delivers environmental benefits, but also delivers huge cost savings for the council, especially when you consider that energy prices are set to rise in future."
