Construction work has begun on the £2.6 billion Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm.
SSE is underway with enabling works on the 588MW scheme and the project will be fully operational by 2019.
A ground-breaking ceremony took place last week near Portgordon in Moray at the main onshore construction compound near the cable landfall point for the route to Blackhillock.
Located in the Outer Moray Firth, the project is one of the largest ever private investments in Scottish infrastructure. Overall, the 84-turbine site is expected to generate enough power for around 450,000 homes once completed
Work on the Operations and Maintenance site at the Thomas Telford buildings in Wick will begin in January 2017. Key component manufacturing is already underway, with offshore construction work scheduled to start in 2017.
