Commemorative Plaque Unveiled At £22.3m Third Don Crossing Site

Construction News Image
A commemorative plaque has been unveiled at the site of the £22.3 million Third Don Crossing in Aberdeen.

A ceremony was held last week to reveal the monument at Walker's Way, which will commemorate Balfour Beatty worker Ian Walker who was killed during the project's construction.

The footpath runs alongside the bank of the River Don and was named in Mr Walker's honour.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by Mr Walker's family, Balfour Beatty co-workers, and Council Leader Jenny Laing.

George Hood, Balfour Beatty's Regional Managing Director, said: "We are pleased to see this tribute being rightfully paid to Ian Walker who was a highly respected colleague. We were pleased that we were able to join with the family and officially name Walkers Way in Ian's honour."

The Third Don Crossing involved building two new bridges to connect Grandholm with Tillydrone. Over 1.5 miles of new roads were built on both sides including new cycleways and footpaths.

The structure was officially opened in June and designed to connect with other infrastructure projects, including the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR/B-T), the Berryden Corridor, and the A96 Dyce Park and Choose.
