Contractors have commenced investigation work at the Stirling's old Harbour Wall in Riverside.

Geotechnical investigations are being carried out following approval of funding to repair the area. Work is expected to continue until 30 September.

The result of the project will inform repair works, which are scheduled to begin this autumn and winter. Civil engineering consultants have been appointed to develop a programme for repairing the damaged section of wall, as well as shoring up the full 70-metre section of remaining old timber and stone wall.

The site has been continually monitored for stability, which will continue throughout the repair project. Engineers have developed a contingency plan to strategically place aggregates in the collapsed area if the damage worsens and becomes critical before the repairs are complete.

Councillor Danny Gibson said: "The commencement of this specialist piece of work which is required to carry out this repair will be warmly welcomed by the local community.

"I am pleased that we have been able to allocate the funding necessary to carry this work out as soon as we can and I look forward to seeing this progress.

"Our Shore Road Harbour area in Riverside is of historic and future value to the wider Stirling area and is a key part of the Council's wider City Deal ambitions."

The current programme project works will be completed in Spring 2017.
