Orkney Islands Council (OIC) has welcomed news of a £5 million boost towards building new housing in islands communities.
Housing Minister Kevin Stewart announced the establishment of a Scottish Government Islands Housing Fund on Tuesday, 13 September.
The fund will be spread over three years and see up to 100 'affordable' homes created in island areas.
Harvey Johnston, Chair of OIC's Education, Leisure and Housing Committee, said the local authority made a "strong case" for funding to help address demand for new housing.
"An announcement earlier this year of Government funding for affordable housing in Scotland's rural areas was an important first step," he said.
"This new fund, aimed specifically at island areas, is very welcome. We will be working with partner organisations to ensure that our communities see a range of good-quality, affordable homes built as a result of this funding."
