Land Engineering Ltd is to begin the next stage of a transport improvement project in Edinburgh.

The contractor will start phase four of the Leith Programme this month and the 10-month scheme will be completed in summer 2017.

Features of the project includes the introduction of dedicated off road cycle lanes, as part of a design that will take into account the potential for extending the city's tram line to Leith.

Early enabling works have been incorporated should the extension decision be taken in 2017, while limited surveying and investigative work is also taking place at the Bernard Street and Constitution Street junction.

Cllr Lesley Hinds said: "We are pleased with the progress of the Leith Programme so far, which has made great improvements to the streetscape for residents, visitors and businesses.

"As we reach phase four of the project, we will continue to strive to keep noise and disruption to a minimum, and thank the public for their patience throughout the process."
