Work is continuing on a £10 million waste water upgrade project in Orkney.

Contractors aBV are carrying out the multi-million pound network improvement in Stromness, which involves linking existing sewers to the Bu Point waste water treatment works.

As part of the development, Scottish Water is hosting a public information event for residents to find out more information about an upcoming work phase in the Ness Road area.

The works involve a rolling closure of the Ness Road at the Golf Course on Monday, 05 September. Further works will then progress towards the town centre with diversion routes in place. The scheme is to be completed by the end of February 2017.

Project Manager Kris Cameron said: "This is a significant project to help protect and enhance the environment. It involves increasing the capacity and improving the performance of the seven existing pumping stations at Garson, West Mainland Mart, Ferry Inn, Navigation School, Sutherlands Pier, Graham Place and Alfred Street.

"When complete the upgrade of Stromness' waste water network will clean up the waters and reduce the risk of pollution around Stromness Harbour."

The information event will take place between 3.30pm and 7pm at the Town Hall in Church Street, Stromness on Thursday, 11 August.
