Perth and Kinross Council has unanimously backed a plan to generate power from the River Tay for hundreds of homes, businesses and schools across Perth.
The £8 million environmentally-friendly initiative will use water heat pumps to capture renewable energy from the river. This will then be utilised within a new district heating network to supple heat to buildings in Tayside.
The first stage of the scheme will supply the power for four business plots, over 200 homes and North Muirton Primary School.
