Marshalls Construction is underway with work to develop new retail units in West Lothian.

The contractor has began building 43,000 sq ft of new retail space for Henry Boot Developments at the 6.8-acre site in Almondvale, Livingston.

The project involves developing two retail units with associated car parking. One unit totalling 20,000 sq ft has been pre-let to home furnishing company Dunelm, while the second unit (23,000 sq ft) will be occupied by another leading retailer and includes an additional 5,000 sq ft garden centre.

Henry Boot acquired the site in 2013, which will also include leisure occupiers as well as retail. A new road will be built on the southern part of the site to facilitate leisure uses.

The retail units are due to be completed in February 2017.

Pamela Doherty, Development Surveyor at Henry Boot, said: "We are delighted to develop in such a thriving centre as Livingston. Our site, which is one of the last remaining gaps within the town will only help to strengthen the shopping experience even further. The development will bring new jobs to Livingston and provide a boost to local economy."
