Work To Begin On £15.6m West Dunbartonshire Project

Construction News Image
Work is due to begin on a £15.6 million redevelopment project in West Dunbartonshire.

The Queens Quay scheme at the former 23-hectare John Brown's shipyard will get underway next month.

The 10-year project aims to "unlock the potential" of the site for housing, leisure and retail opportunities.

The first stage of the scheme involves remediation work in preparation for creating the road infrastructure and public spaces on the waterfront.

Once infrastructure works are completed, including repairs to quay walls, creating new basin decking along with a new road layout, the first phase involves building a new care home and health centre.

Work is underway to develop a mini 'masterplan' for the Health Quarter, which will map out proposals for the care home, health centre and associated infrastructure.

The possibility of a District Heating Scheme is also being explored, which would utilise energy extracted from the river basin.

Strategic Lead for Regeneration, Jim McAloon, said: "Although we are still in the very early stages of this project it's exciting to see it progressing. Queens Quay offers us a fantastic opportunity to open up an area of Clydebank which has been derelict for a number of years, whilst also creating much-needed housing in the area.

"We will engage with and consult with the community as more detailed proposals and designs for each part of the project are developed."

Once the Health Quarter is completed, housing, retail and leisure elements of the plan will follow.
